At the Mayo Martin Keane U17 Division 3 Round 9 game between Straide & Foxford United and Claremorris AFC B on BH Monday evening, the away side came home with a 4-0 win under their belts. Played at S&F’s Green Road home pitch, it was the Green shirted Claremorris side the dominated the play, with great energy, passion and skill, demonstrated from all of the squad on duty. Even the founder of the Argentinian Navy, Foxford born Admiral Browne, whose statue stands tall at the entrance to the grounds, would have been impressed. Within 2 minutes, two well taken goals were netted, which got the South Mayo lads sails up. Midfielder, Nojus Gudaitis netted the first of his now notorious big hits, ten minutes into the game, to be followed by a volley by his co-centre field man Ross Connelly. Jake Moran, usually a defender, playing in an unorthodox left side of midfield, relished the role, and took his chance well to score just before halftime. 3-0 to the visitors. S&F reinforced their armoury and proved stronger opponents in the second half, creating more chances. The ‘3 man back 4’ as once described by a former Liverpool manager, excelled with Faustas Gudaitis, Emmet Burke and skipper Oisin Sweeney ensuring that there was no break in the defensive shoreline, aided by keeper David Walsh. The game was put into the dusky distance with another rasper from Nojus. 4-0. Also soldering hard were Evan Heneghan, Cathal Killeen, Mark Warde, Aidan Brogan, Jason Garvey, Keenan Mortimer and Matthew Gilligan. Our U17A Boys drew 2-2 at home to an excellent Castlebar Celtic side this evening in the U17 Premier Division. We got off to the worst possible start conceding from a corner after 4 minutes. The boys were playing well and were soon level when a free kick from Se was guided home by Ryan and it remained 1-1 at half time. Second half and the boys were creating some great openings but just couldn't make it count. Midway through the half and the away side took the lead. Boys kept creating chances and levelled with 5 minutes left when a shot from Se was parried by the keeper and Eoghan scored from the rebound. Great display from the squad this evening. Claremorris U15 B girls pictured before their league game v Castlebar Town on Thursday evening. This was the toughest game of the league so far for the young Claremorris side, as they battled the older, more physical Castlebar side. A fantastic display from super goalie Jess Comer kept the game on even par for most of the first half. However, Castlebar managed to slot in two goals before half time. Claremorris dominated the second half, with excellent passing moves, but were unlucky when the cross bar foiled gial-scoring attempts from Isabelle Duggan. Final score 3-0 to Castlebar Town. Claremorris U15C Girls proved victorious in their league game v Manulla B in Concannon Park on Thursday evening. Two goals from Alexa Lyons and a third from Ava Burke ensured Claremorris were 3-0 up at half time. A determined Manulla B side retaliated early on in the 2nd half, leaving the scoreline at 3-3 with only 5 minutes on the clock. Carrigan Hunt delivered the winning goal, to the delight of the home crowd. A great display of football for both young teams.
